Chris Warunki | Drum Set: One-on-one Lessons

Chris Warunki is a versatile Vancouver based drummer and instructor that has toured extensively in Canada, the United States, Europe and the UK with a wide range of artists as a session drummer.

In 1998 Chris graduated from WVSS with honours in Arts. He did his first professional gig while still in high school and then went on to pursue his musical education at BCIT and CAP and began working as a session drummer (drummer for hire) in his early 20’s.

Some of his career highlights include studio sessions for Sony, Warner and BMG, performing live on Canadian Idol to a live television audience of 2 million viewers and opening for Taylor Swift in front of 36,000 people at Commonwealth Stadium. He has also taught over 30 live drum lessons on the award-winning online educational site Drumeo dot com to students worldwide. 

Chris has 27 years of drumming (all styles) and 15 years teaching experience (all ages) and keeps busy teaching and performing schedule in town working with various cover bands, his own cover band "SoundSystem" and his original band "OmnisighT". While not on the drums Chris enjoys playing guitar and writing/recording his own music spanning many genres.

His professional endorsements include Sabian Cymbals, Cympad accessories, Sweet Spot hi-hat clutches, EPEK Drums and Los Cabos Drumsticks.

Craig Stevenson | Guitar: One-on-one Lessons

Craig holds a Bachelor of Music with Distinction from Concordia University in Montreal, as well as a Jazz Studies Diploma from St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. As a performing musician, Craig has been a guitarist in many types of ensembles including jazz trios, quartets, big bands, rock and folk groups, as well as performing solely as a singer-songwriter. He believes in keeping music exciting and enjoys adapting to different musical environments. As a dedicated teacher, Craig works to instill a solid musical foundation in his students while working on material they are interested in. Craig’s strong, diverse musical knowledge makes him well-equipped to teach students of all skill levels with different musical aspirations.

Genevieve MacKay | Violin: One-on-one Lessons

Genevieve MacKay began studying the violin at the age of four, and turned her attention to the viola at sixteen. She has played in a wide variety of ensembles, ranging from the UBC Symphony Orchestra, Opera Appassionata, and the baroque-oriented Baranduin Ensemble to the indie band Andorra.

In 2006, Genevieve was drawn into the world of early music, which she is currently exploring on violin, viola and viola da gamba. Incurably multidisciplinary, Genevieve holds a B.A. in English literature and an M.A. in Ancient Culture, Religion, and Ethnicity from the University of British Columbia. As a teacher, she strives to make the violin and viola approachable for her students while instilling in them a love of music.

Hey Woun Hyun | Piano: One-on-one Lessons

Dr. Hey Woun Hyun holds a B.A. in Music and Cello Performance from South Korea. She furthered her studies at the University of Potsdam in Germany where she received scholarships, eventually achieving another B.A and M.A. in Music Education. With a post graduate scholarship from the University of Potsdam, Hey Woun completed her PhD in Education. She also has a Teaching Certificate for elementary school in Germany. Hey Woun has been principle cellist in numerous symphonies which included the Opera Appassionata, the North Shore Opera Society Orchestra and the West Coast Symphony Orchestra. Hey Woun has also been performing chamber music for charitable organizations such as Genesis Safe House and fundraisers for spinal research. For the past fifteen years, she has been teaching Cello, Piano and Music Theory. She also has been teaching at Douglas College Community Music School and Vancouver International Music School and member of BCRMTA since 2011. Her passion for music and education are what she wants to share with all her students, resulting in high marks in RCM exams and festivals.

Jasper Graham | Piano: One-on-one Lessons

Jasper Graham is an exuberant young man who is always excited to share his passion for music. Studying at Capilano University, he completed a Diploma of Music before continuing his Bachelors of Music at theUniversity of Victoria. He achieved The Grace Swannell Memorial Scholarship in Piano (2015) for academic excellence.

Throughout his education, Jasper has had the privilege to study under the tutelage of Rudy Rozanski, Arthur Rowe, Michelle Mares, and perform in the masterclasses of the internationally known Colin Tilney. Jasper has participated in numerous festivals, collaborated with vocalists and choirs. Furthermore, he has had the privilege of performing solo works throughout British Columbia and internationally at the University Mozarteum of Salzberg. Currently residing back on the North Shore, Jasper is actively teaching and accompanying, striving to spread a little musical joy to any and all who are moved by its call.

Marcia Meyer | Piano: One-on-one Lessons

Marcia Meyer is a pianist, composer, arranger, and educator. Students working with her have the opportunity to prepare for RCM Exams, to learn Jazz, Pop, and Broadway Favourites, learn all levels of theory, and to be introduced to Improvisation.

Marcia's lessons emphasize having fun while developing good technique—a key ingredient for superior tone production. As for musical improvisation, she maintains this is akin to conversation: If you enjoy conversing with others and are ready to learn the basics of playing the piano, you're on your way to being able to improvise.

Yelena Watson | Piano: One-on-one Lessons

Yelena Watson, B.Mus. (UBC), is an associate piano teacher of the BC Conservatory of Music and a registered music teacher (RMT) in British Columbia. She has been teaching piano and theory for over 20 years and many of her students have achieved outstanding results in their piano examinations and competitions.

Yelena has received extensive training through private instruction and master classes from Edward Parker, Lee Kum Sing, and Robert Rogers, among others. Mrs. Watson looks forward to sharing her expertise with students at the West Vancouver Community Centre.
