Socially Active: Making Friends in West Vancouver
West Vancouver is a growing community with a diversity of backgrounds, experiences, abilities and identities.
Socially Active is a new program designed to connect newcomers with long-term West Vancouver residents. Through a new friendship, you might learn a new language, improve your English, get to know the community around you, share your experiences and skills, or try something you have never tried before!
Participants will be matched based on personality type and interests, and will connect with each other for 1 to 1.5 hours per week (online or in-person, based on their own schedule) over a six-month period. They will receive invitations to events and workshops that they can join together, meet others, learn about and explore the community, participate in interactive activities such as nature walks or cooking, fitness, or arts classes—either in an in-person or virtual setting.
If you are a newcomer, register for this program and we will contact you for an interview.
If you wish to participate as a mentors/long-term resident, you are required to be registered as a volunteer with the District of West Vancouver and you can apply for this program by contacting the Volunteer Coordinator at 604-913-2703. Mentor applicants will be invited to an orientation.
NOTE: This program has no fixed schedule. After interviews, paired friends will make their own schedule to meet up and socialize. Participants will receive invitations to Socially Active program group activities.
