SOCIALLY ACTIVE: MAKING FRIENDS IN WEST VANCOUVER

As the West Vancouver community is continuously growing in diversity of backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and identities we are pleased to launch Socially Active—an exciting new program designed to connect newcomers with long-time West Vancouver residents! Enjoy interactive activities such as nature walks, cooking, fitness, or arts either in an in-person or virtual setting.

This program has been adapted to meet COVID-19 safety protocols. If you are an English language learner and need some language support to participate, we will do our best to find you support.

Are you new in West Vancouver? If yes, welcome to West Vancouver! Join this tour to learn about the West Vancouver Community Centre facilities, how to find activities and how to register. Language support is available upon request. Virtual till further notice.

Socially Active: Monday Walk (free)

Come out for an easy walk, rain or shine, Vancouver style! As a COVID-19 safety measure, participants will be paired to start a walk at staggered times, to avoid group walking.

Socially Active - Chop & Chat: Let's Make Snack (Virtual)

Thursday, June 17  |  3:30 – 4:30 p.m.

This Chop & Chat will be an after-school session for families to participate together and learn about healthy eating and how to make snack like Oatmeal Cookies and a Fun-Striped Smoothie. Children, ages 8 – 13 years-old are welcome to participate with their parent's or caregiver's supervision.

Online ESL English Conversation Class with Janet (low cost)

Let your "quarantine skill" be improved English, from the safety of your home!

In this 75-minute, fun Conversation Class, you will be talking with native English speakers in a pair or 3-person conversation setting, on different topics in every class. 

An experienced Canadian ESL instructor, Janet will cover useful “Canadian” topics to improve your English vocabulary and grammar and to understand some Canadian etiquette in conversations. 

The class aims to help you to boost your English so that you can take part more fully in the community by speaking more English and understanding community resources.

Participation with video camera and audio is required in this interactive class. Suited for intermediate English learners.

Super Sports: Be Fit, Fast & Fair

Get your kids physically active and skilled with well-trained coaches! Each day will feature a multi-sport approach with coaching to improve skills and develop movements that will improve game play. Participants will also learn rules of games and sports while also developing strategy to enhance play. The components of team work, leadership and fair-play will be emphasized.

Family Firefly: Create Your Migration Story

Have you and your children moved from one place to another city/country? If yes, this camp is for you.

This Family Firefly Project combines theatre, literary and visual arts-based learning to facilitate the child and adult participants to tell their very own original migration stories and communicate them to and with their classmates through storytelling, drama and visual art.
Adult (parents or caregiver) participation is not required but highly welcome in this family-focused camp. Adults and children will be in separated rooms to explore and learn storytelling skills.
